2 Cool Thoughts

I came across a couple thoughts today that I thought were pretty great.

1. Tom Peters has said, "Reward excellent failures. Punish mediocre successes." This is talking about creating a culture where failure is seen as an inevitable part of progress as long as it is done properly. The second part of the statement suggests that our natural tendancy is to go for the mediocre and succeed, rather than risking and going for bigger wins. Generally speaking, in churches and businesses, we don't take enough good risks.

2. Ecclesiastes 7:18 says, "The man who fears God will avoid all extremes."
Occasionally I come across a verse in the Bible I just didn't know was there. This is one of them. Here is The Message translation of the same verse, "It's best to stay in touch with both sides of an issue. A person who fears God deals responsibly with all of reality, not just a piece of it."
