To walk after the flesh means to live according to my sinful
desires.
To walk after the flesh also means to live in my own power instead of God's power. To rely on myself.
So
think of it like this:
Living in the flesh = according to flesh's desires and power
Living
in the Spirit = according to the Spirit's desires and power.
SO... invite the Holy Spirit to help you examine your life.
In what ways are you living in the flesh (according to the flesh's desires and in the flesh's power)?
In what ways are you living in the Spirit?
What can you do in the next week to change this?
- this includes
my words, thoughts, actions, motivations etc.
- my sinful or
fleshly desires are the desires every human being has that come from our
"lower", or sinful nature. These could be bad, like to take revenge,
or they could seem not so bad, but they are all rooted in selfishness (they
include, greed, lust, selfish ambition etc.) The works of the flesh are listed
in many places in the Bible including Galatians 5:19.
To walk after the flesh also means to live in my own power instead of God's power. To rely on myself.
To walk in the Spirit is to walk according to the Spirit's
desires and in the Spirit's power.
- This includes
thoughts, words, actions, motives etc.
- The Spirit's
desires are 'self-less' (loving). The fruits of the Spirit are contrasted with
the works of the flesh in Galatians 5:22 (love, joy, peace, patience,
goodness, kindness, gentleness, faith, and self-control).
