Humility

I recently had the opportunity to hear John Dickson speak on humility (and read his great book "Humilitas"). Humility is a subject that is not often addressed with any real insight. I really enjoy Dickson's thoughts on this and thought you might too. Here they are from his speech:

5 Reasons to Build Humility Into Your Life -

1. Humility is Common Sense
 - We ALL have good reason to be humble. None of us is an expect at everything. For every one of us, what we don't know and can't do far exceed that which we do know and can do.

2. Humility is Beautiful
 - No matter how great you are, your lack of humility will diminish your greatness. When we encounter someone with humility we are drawn to want to hear from and receive from that person. When we encounter someone who is arrogant, we are drawn away from their influence. Regardless of how competent they are.

3. Humility is Generative
- You learn more. Scientific growth happens through humility. Humility takes you further in business, school and other places because it opens you up to more growth and development. Arrogant companies are losing opportunities to learn and grow. So are arrogant people.

4. Humility is Persuasive
 - The most believable person in the world is the person with your best interest at heart.

5. Humility is Inspiring
- It makes us want to reach higher and be better. It makes our leaders seem like we could be like them.
